Artist's Comments

Time to keep this freight train moving. My homie, BK a.k.a. earned himself this trade for placing in the top ten of my contest from last winter.

This is a character that definitely gets a lot of screen time on DA---rock on BK! I got no other way of putting it other than Mourning Star is to Self-InFiction as Onyx is to CE-Rap......yeah, that's about right.

BK, we should do a "Team-Up" theme one day, eh?

holla!

Hells yeah, really sweet work here. Yeah Mourning Star does get alot of love, 'specially in the Really love the ridiculous detail in the musculature and such, he really looks like he's about to unload a boat-load of pain on some poor shmo.

Hooooly damn!!

This is most DEFINITELY one of the best pieces I've gotten of MS, man. THANK YOU!!! That is just SICK!!! The anatomy is amazingly good. (The face is reminding me of an actor, but I can't figure out who. lol. Any reference used so I can sleep easier? :giggle:) And I LOVE the touches you added yourself. The straps, swords, gloves, cross, and the stitching on the pants. I always dig it when an artist adds a little somethin of there own. Its awesome because the additions are really quite minor changes and yet it screams "Yea, CE definitely did this :)".

Friggin LOVE IT, dude!! Now that I got two contest entries out of the way, I should be able to start on my half tomorrow. :w00t:

Thanks alot, dude. This came out friggin TIGHT!!
:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

*lol. also diggin how you got your name on the strap. Reminds me of early 90s comic book trading cards. ;) Nice!*

hmmmm--i dunno about the face. I don't really direct reference from actors that often, unless they are just the perfect choice.

What I do (style-wise) with characters is give them a definitive look that can never be recycled. The same way two people never look EXACTLY alike, neither do i ever draw two characters the same way. I think MS's face helped me achieve the unique look I'm always trying to give to each individual character i draw.

I think in particular i definitely gave him longer hair/side bangs---i just have a thing for that secondary motion:D

Really glad you approve---had fun doing it

Awesome job. If you two do a team-up theme, I'd love to see it.

More Deviant, more Angelic, more Aggresive than ever...
:iconself-infiction:
Yea definitely noticed you do that with your characters. Thats one of the things I really REALLY love about your work. There's no room for generic. Know what I mean? Artists like J. Scott Campbell, hell better yet Rob Liefield, a LOT of the characters look alike. (ESPECIALLY for Liefield. Was never honetly a fan of his style. Talent? yes. Style?) Thats just one of the reasons I could see you makin it in the comic business. Definitely. Of course, your speed helps too. You work friggin QUICK, bro!!! And STILL maintain brilliant quality!! Friggin insane. I love it.

And I figured out what my problem was. For some reason (dunno why) his chin reminds me of Brad Pitt's from Fight Club. Again, dunno why but it does. lol. Maybe its the intensity of the character. (This is NOT a complaint btw. No, sir. Not. At. ALL.) And I definitely know what you mean by the hair lenght and movement. Hell, if the characters hair grows as quick as mine does, than he could achieve that length in as little as 4-6 weeks. lmao. So that definitely works for him too.

And yea, man. DEFINITELY approve. I just knew you'd ace this character. And he is a fun character to draw. ....until you have to draw all six of them damn swords on his back and the right lenghts and distances. What @$$hole thought THAT up. ....oh.... right. :giggle:

Thanks again, dude. I know I'm speechy, but I'm only speechy when there something worth sayin. But you already knew that. ;)
